Is an apprenticeship right for me?
Apprenticeships are one of several ways to get your foot in the door and start learning a trade. Going this route might be right for you if:
- You know what job you want.If you’re committed to learning a specific trade and want to get started, along with with structure and training.
- You’re a hands-on learner.You’re raring to work on real-life projects. Remember you’ll spend around 20% of your time studying but it’s always related to the industry you’re working in.
- You want your own money.You’ll earn from day one and you won’t start your working life with a load of student debt.

If you’re interested in working for a specific company, then check out the recruitment pages on their website. You can also check college and training provider websites for details of apprenticeships they offer.
Many training providers will often have existing ties to companies who take on apprentices each year.

When you get to the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have a qualification and a career mapped out for you. And your employer might even offer you the next step on the ladder too – a full-time job.
