Ventilation systems mvhr for house with high condensation
Hi there,
I'm wondering what type of tradesperson would be best suited for resolving a problem with ventilation/condensation as I'm not entirely sure.
My terrace house was build in 2005 and it seems to have okay insulation, but the front and rear walls have clearly lower temperature than the other internal wall and I'm having a lot of condensation at the higher part of the wall and ceiling. I believe this is due to the drafts on the attic, so the ceiling and top of walls get colder and cause condensation.
I've been thinking about MVHR to resolve part of the issue so I can get proper ventilation across the house with heat recovery and also insulate the attic properly so I don't have drafts that cause the walls/ceiling to be cold.
What do you guys think?

Hi
There is no need to go down MVHR route,the problem is with high humidity.
All you need is maybe some upgrades and some education.80% of humidity emanates from the kitchen an bathroom.
Make sure a good quality cooker hood extractor with an external vent is fitted and used every time you use the hob.
upgrade bathroom extractor to one with a built in humidistat and keep door closed when using the shower and close when finished.
Fit trickle vents to windows.
A good humidity for a property is 70%>75%.
You are correct in upgrading the loft with a minimum of 150mm.
ive listed some Dos and Do'nts below
• Never dry anything on top or in front of radiators
• Always keep door closed when using the bath or shower and close when finished.
• Never store items or place furniture in front of an outside walls
• Always use cooker hood extractor when using the hob (if fitted)
And keep kitchen door closed
• Never obstruct air brick vents (if fitted)
• Never close trickle vents on UPVC windows (if fitted)
• Try to maintain a constant temperature during the months of October and March (18c-21c)
• All extractor fans should have built-in humidistat or a long over run facility
