Bricklaying

Roughcast wall above brick base

I am building an extension to the rear of an existing semi-detached house. The existing house has about 10 courses of brick, and then external insulation applied with roughcast above. As the insulation/roughcast has been applied retrospectively, this projects out past the bricks.

I am looking to tie through with this on the extension, so a brick base and rendered/roughcast upper. I imagine it will change to a blockwork wall where the roughcast is to go. The two finishes should more or less tie through on the same plane, really just the thickness of the roughcast as the difference.

My question is whether anything should be done at the joint of brick to roughcast. Is there some sort of detail that would help keep this edge sharp/protected? I don't want to have the roughcast chipped away over time because the edge is exposed.

如果我阅读你的描述和insulation is retrospectively attached to the existing there should be a stop bead at the bottom to support the insulation/ protect it, if you are going to tie in to the existing structure you would have the thickness of the insulation and rough cast proud of your new work which creates a whole different perspective so my be wise to get a local builder around to have a look at it first.

A bell drip bead would do job perfectly well however if I was building it I would oversail the last course of brickwork which would act as a drip Bead also giving you solid hard edge to render down to
