When replacing boiler do i need to change the flue pipes as well?

Hello,

I have purchased a 10 years old property (2 beds apartment) with 10 years old boiler - Potterton Powermax HE 115. This combi boiler has Flue tube and Air Tube coming out of it, going into the ceiling and then towards the external wall. I guess a total of 4-5 meters of tubes between the boiler and the external wall. Each tube is 60cm in diameter.

I am considering to replace this combi boiler with something newer, more efficient and compact. However, I would like to know if it can be done without replacing the existing flue pipes to avoid removing the ceiling. Or there is some regulation stating that in case the boiler is replaced the flue pipes MUST be replaced? (I would even consider replacing it with electric combi boiler if this meant that the current tubes can remain).

I would be extremely thankful for your advice.

p.s. If you can recommend a suitable alternative combi boiler for replacement of the current Potterton Powermax HE 115 combi boiler, that would be simply ideal.

I'm afraid you will absolutely have to change the flue for the new boiler.

A replacement will really depend on your individual requirements. The Powermax isn't really a combi - it has a store of hot water, like a cylinder. You might therefore be better off with a system boiler and separate cylinder. It all depends on the existing installation (including gas supply and discharge pipework), how much room you've got and what your heating and hot water demands are likely to be. Get a competent installer round to discuss the options would really be the best advice for you.
